Rick Hardenbrook (Principal) has been in the special effects business for over 20 years. After graduating from California State Univ. Chico (4.0 average in graduate studies), he became the Senior Museum technician at Yale University's Center for British Art. Freelancing in New York City led to model making for commercials and designing loft and studio spaces. In 1980, Rick joined W.E.D. Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering). As Lead Special Effects Designer for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, Rick was responsible for new effect concepts, design, and guided projects through engineering, production, and installation. Rick hired and trained the design / mock-up team for the New Fantasyland project, and aspects of Tokyo Disneyland. At Warner Communication's Mariposa Group, Rick headed the effects effort on projects for the Sultanate of Oman, proposed Cousteau Society exhibitions, and restaurant audio animatronic shows. Rick founded RLH Enterprises in 1985, and started work on the Columbia Pacific Pavilion, 1986 World's Exposition in Vancouver, British Columbia. Rick consulted on light-weight puppet materials for Henson's Muppets. For the Royal British Columbia Museum, Victoria, B.C., Rick designed and built motion picture film loop systems. Similar units were installed in Universal Studio's E.T.'s Adventure, both in California and Florida and are showing the same remarkable reliability they do in Canada. While continuing effects work for the Royal British Columbia Museum and other RLH clients, Rick became the Senior Special Effects Designer for Art & Technology, Inc., Burbank. For Art & Technology he designed effects for Dr. Jeekahn's nightclub in Tokyo; Puri Misteri, a dark ride in Indonesia; and did concept design for Korean projects. Effects concept development and design for Universal Studio's E.T.'s Adventure took the major share of Rick's time at Art & Technology. As a subcontractor to Art & Technology, RLH Enterprises supplied motion picture film loop systems, and proprietary effects techniques. RLH Enterprises has also developed a Mini Theatrical Special Effects Projection System (The P-75) that offers the flexibility designers need. RLH Enterprises continues to offer the sort of effects work that can only come from a varied and extensive background in the industry. Dylan Hardenbrook, Rick's son and partner, joined RLH Enterprises in 1997 after graduating with honors from The University of California, Santa Cruz. Having worked in and around special effects all his life, he took over the day to day business of RLH Enterprises and manages RLH Enterprises effects production. Dylan is a talented effects designer that contributes to concept development and design on all RLH Enterprises effects and show development projects. |
